What is the City Nature Challenge?
Join the Texas Master Naturalists, San Antonio Parks and Recreation, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and many others in a fun weekend long challenge, April 26-29, to see which city can document the most plant and animal species. It’s easy and free to participate by joining an event or making observations on your own using iNaturalist! Cities compete with each other to see which location can document the most species in their local area. To find out more about CNC 2024 and how to download the app, visit CNC-SA.org

About iNaturalist:
iNaturalist is an online social network of people sharing sightings and pictures of the biodiversity around us, to help learn about nature. This app helps you identify what you took a photo of, and the data helps scientists worldwide learn more about our natural world.

How to participate:
1. Create a free iNaturalist Account
2. Watch our how-to video or attend a “Training Walk”
3. Plan a trip to the park with family or friends on the last weekend of April and photograph any living thing that you find! Plants or animals, or fungi too! Try to focus on native life and not pets or potted plants.
4. Upload your photos to iNaturalist!
5. All photos uploaded within the participating county lines will automatically be added to the challenge. (San Antonio metro area counties include Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Gillespie, Gliad, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, and Wilson)
6. Check the iNaturalist City Nature Challenge page to see what is being uploaded in your area!
