9:30 am Atlatl: Ancient Spear Throwing
September 18, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am
Before the bow and arrow, there was the atlatl and dart!
Do you have what it takes to be a prehistoric hunter? Try your hand at the atlatl and see how hard it is to catch dinner!
Who: All ages are welcome, both adults and kids. This activity is best for adults and kids age 7 or older, since the dart (spear) is long and can be difficult for younger kids.
When: Drop in anytime between 9:30 and 10:30.
Where: This program is held at the Prairie Trail Parking Lot (Equestrian Parking lot).
What to bring: Wear comfortable, close-toed shoes and dress for the weather (hat is highly recommended!), and bring drinking water.
Directions: As you enter the park, pass the Park Office and take an immediate right. Drive down the gravel road about 1/4 mile, to the end of the road. Park in this parking lot. Note: If you are already in the park, you will need to leave the park and make a u-turn by the park office, as the road here is one-way each direction. Then follow the directions above.
Cost: Park programs are open to the public and included with valid park entrance: $7 per person ages 13 and up, kids 12 and under are free! Entrance is free for Texas State Parks Annual passholders and anyone in the vehicle with him/her.
