Volunteer workdays at the Rust House
For 2019, the first volunteer workday was held on February 23. Volunteers and Friends helped clean up around the Rust House, clearing vegetation too near the building, removing fencing around the old tractors, removing stones around plantings, and dissembling the compost beds. In addition, a brief assessment was made of the building itself regarding needed repairs. Volunteers, as they appear in the last photo below, left to right, were Dave Kibler, Sandy Brogen, Theresa Tyler, Holly Camero, Thea Platz, Park Interpreter Holly Platz, Laird Ingram, John Prentice, Ed Brogen, Jim Doyle, and Mackenzie Brown. Attending but not shown were Charleen Moore (taking the picture), Wilt Shaw and Assistant Superintendent Joel Parker.
The second 2019 workday was on November 9. Volunteers and Friends met at the Rust House to plant trees and seed a new pocket prairie behind the house. First, the tree planting:
