Honey Creek State Natural Area was acquired by the state in 1985. Honey Creek itself is one of the few remaining pristine creeks in Texas. The area was first settled by the Doeppenschmidt family, and was eventually sold to the Weidners, who continued ranching and farming operations into the 1960s. The links below will take you photos of Honey Creek itself, with its crystalline blue-green waters, and to images of the Doeppenschmidts and Weidners who first worked the land. These images, from family photo albums, provide glimpses of various facets of ranch life in the early years of European settlement in the Hill Country.
