1:00 pm Fishing Basics

Learn how to identify common fish species of Texas and their habitat, tie knots, understand fishing regulations, and how to keep fish, people, and the environment safe.

This is not an actual fishing event, but it is a great way to learn fishing basics. There will be five stations set up: fish identification, fish habitats, knot tying, regulations, and safety for fish, people, and the environment. Upon checking in at the program, you will be provided with a passport to take to each station. Once you visit all stations, bring it back to the check-in area to get a prize!

After learning, feel free to check out a loaner fishing pole and tackle from the Discovery Center.
Note: fishing poles need to be returned before 4:00pm when the Discovery Center closes; you will also need to B.Y.O.B.- bring your own bait

All ages are welcome!

Where: Kayak launch area in day-use
Bring: Your family, drinking water, and sun protection
Cost: Free with park admission; Adults: $7, Children 12 & under: Free
