A workshop on cedar removal and groundwater recharge was held at the Cibolo Nature Center (CNC) on April 6, co-sponsored by the CNC, the Friends of GRSP/HCSNA, and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The workshop was conducted by J. Ryan Banta and Richard Slattery, both employees of the USGS, and was based on a ten-year study reported in their article, “Effects of Brush Management on the Hydrologic Budget and Water Quality In and Adjacent to Honey Creek State Natural Area, Comal County, Texas, 2001–10.” They eagerly embraced the opportunity to share their field research with the public. The workshop consisted of an indoor presentation at the CNC that was given by Ryan Banta and a field trip led by Richard Slattery that was initially scheduled to follow immediately after the presentation. The field trip had to be postponed two weeks due to rain. There were 16 participants at the indoor workshop and 17 on the field trip.
Three weeks prior to the workshop, Ryan and Richard revisited the site where the experiment had been conducted, to prepare for the field trip:
